But that does prove that buckles would have existed on vests in the 1840s. I don't normally like pla...These are wonderful!<br />I don't normally like plaid, but that purple-blue vest is gorgeous.<br />There is a third option for cinching the back- a buckle. I've seen this on 2 extant examples.
